A few weeks ago, when it was announced that Edge was going to issue an open challenge for Wrestlemania, I was curious. I mean, sure there were some obvious possibilities, but the one I figured would happen was AJ Styles. My one concern at the time was that they would turn AJ heel again.
Seeing as how AJ had just turned face I was hoping that they wouldn’t have him flip flopping back and forth. My thought was that I actually wanted to see a cool face vs face contest.
Boy was I surprised! I honestly never considered the idea that Edge would be the one to turn heel.
The next week when Edge made his entrance with the creepy lighting and his signature song cutting off just after the beginning, it was a bit of a surprise for sure.
But nothing could have prepared me for this week when Edge came out to an entirely new song! Normally, a new song wouldn’t necessarily be such a big deal, but when a Superstar is so tied to an iconic song for literally over a decade, a change is huge.
The other thing this new entrance says to me is that Edge is all in on this new persona. If this wasn’t meant to be a long term change, would they have even bothered?
I’ve been excited for Edge’s run since his return in 2020, but this takes it to a whole new level for me. The other side effect that I hope to see from this is that AJ Styles face run and this storyline overall will be one of the biggest and best stories of the year.
I truly think this could lead to Edge having his own Head of the Table style run on Raw after Wrestlemania.
What do you guys think about Edge’s new attitude? Who do you think will win the match at Wrestlemania? Let me know! I want this to be a place for fun wrestling talk!
